Messy Messy

This blog has become cluttered and unmanageable, and generally full of posts I care little for at the present time. I will be starting fresh on the likes of Weebly or something in the near future, so I wouldn't expect to see anything new here anymore :)

Self Promotion Project

Brief:
In response to an advertised job, develop a self promotional pack to fit in an A4 padded envelope. This pack is to contain stationary used for your company, the items to include are:

• Logo
• Self Promoting Poster
• Letter Head
• Covering Letter
• Compliment Slip
• Business Card
• CD Label
• 8 page booklet CV

*For all stationary, excluding the brochure, use only two Pantone colours.

For my brochure I designed a fold out booklet printed double sided on a sheet of A3. The logo is a vector conversion of the ink drawing I posted on this blog a couple months back, also included in the brochure, as I believe it's one of my best non-digital illustrations. The Pantone's used were solid uncoated 158 U and 419 U.

Birds, birds, birds

Some small illustrations of birds thrown together in relation to the "My Dad's a Birdman" children's book, likely to be used when naming the feathers or as part of the scenery.

*Edit: Been thinking of taking the thicker pastel outline out of the image, anyone agree?

Projects this term . . .

1. Design Theory - 2000 word essay on question of my choosing and presentation + 1000 word dissertation plan

2. Illustrating extract of children's book with 'Seven Stories' - book entitled "My Dad's a Birdman" (David Almond)

3. 48 page journal using InDesign based on Dadaism and the creation of a unique font under this movement

Regarding the children's book here's what I have so far done in Corel Painter 12.

* Edit: further work on bird suit

And after briefly reading up on the Dada movement I began drafting some font. Based on the idea that Dada is anti-everything, disregarding logic and promoting chaos.

Doodle of the day

Really getting the hang of this tablet . . . that is all

New Tablet

Accidentally misplaced my class today so thought l'd have a wonder into town and maybe get some equipment. To my luck I came across a used Bamboo Pen tablet when looking for a copy of Rayman Origins (cause I'm hardcore). Needless to say I couldn't resist, and i haven't stopped using it since I came home. Here's what I've been practising doing to get to grips with using it.

Those calligraphic brushes are so much better to use with a pen.

Kraken

Now seeing as the new term has started, and I'm betting it's going to be a busy one, I figured it was high time to start getting some drawing in where I can. Because I don't quite feel 'in the mind set' yet I have opted to first draw something already existing and then run it through Illustrator for practice. As I'm currently bashing away at FFI anniversary on the PSP I thought what better than one of the four fiends.
Kraken, Fiend of Water
In Illustrator I tried my hand at some calligraphic brush work instead of using the pen tool. However I feel this is better utilized on a graphic tablet, what with the pressure and variation of stroke settings that would have been available, alas I do not own one but I figure I'll try and get hold of one at Uni soon.

Term 2 has commenced

As of today (10th) the new term has started, although I do not have my first day until tomorrow. Not much is known yet as to what work I will be doing for the next project but I do know that it will involve illustrating a manuscript for a children's book. The brief we were handed also has some vague mention of the London riots which hopefully HOPEFULLY does not mean what I think it does.
